2. What the service is
NameCrestly provides statistical estimates about the frequency of first names and surnames in the United States, derived from public government datasets. It is an informational and entertainment tool. It is not a people-search service, a background-check service, a genealogy record or a consumer report of any kind.
3. Estimates, not facts
Every figure is a modelled approximation carrying a genuine margin of error, as set out on the methodology page. Nothing here should be relied upon for any legal, financial, medical, genealogical or official purpose, nor presented as an authoritative count of any population.
4. Permitted use
You may use the site for personal, educational and non-commercial research. You may cite figures with attribution to NameCrestly and a link to the relevant page. You may not:
- attempt to identify, locate or contact any individual using this site;
- scrape, bulk-download or systematically harvest the site or its data files beyond ordinary browsing;
- use automated means to place unreasonable load on the service;
- reproduce substantial portions of the written content as your own;
- use the site in any way that is unlawful or infringes anyone’s rights.
5. Underlying data
The source datasets are published by the US Social Security Administration and the US Census Bureau and are in the public domain. You are free to obtain them directly from those agencies. Our processing, written content, design and code are not public domain and remain our property.
6. Intellectual property
The NameCrestly name, logo, written content, visual design and source code are protected by copyright and other rights. Short quotations with attribution are welcome; wholesale copying is not.
7. No warranty
The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or uninterrupted availability. We do not warrant that any estimate is correct.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages arising from your use of the site, or for any decision made in reliance on information found here. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid to use the service, which is zero.
9. Availability and changes
We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site at any time without notice, including altering how estimates are calculated as better data becomes available.
